Inspiring Scientific Thinking: Science Workshop with Padma Shri Prof. H. C. Verma

Sir Padampat Singhania Education Centre (SPSEC), Kanpur, had the privilege of hosting an enriching Science Workshop for Teachers conducted by Padma Shri Prof. H. C. Verma, visionary physicist, renowned author and Emeritus Professor at IIT Kanpur.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to engage with one of India’s most respected science educators and explore approaches that can make the teaching and learning of science more engaging, meaningful and concept-driven.

Strengthening the Teaching of Science

Prof. H. C. Verma is widely recognised for his contribution to physics education and his ability to explain scientific concepts with remarkable clarity. His interaction encouraged educators to look beyond conventional methods and focus on developing curiosity, observation and conceptual understanding among learners.

The session highlighted the importance of making science an experience rather than limiting it to textbooks and examinations. Through thoughtful discussions and insights, the workshop encouraged a deeper understanding of how scientific ideas can be connected with everyday experiences.

Encouraging Curiosity and Scientific Temper

Effective science education begins with questions. The workshop reinforced the value of encouraging students to ask, investigate, experiment and discover.

Such an approach helps educators create classrooms where learners actively participate in the learning process, develop problem-solving abilities and build a genuine interest in understanding the world around them.

A Valuable Learning Experience at SPSEC

The workshop reflected SPSEC’s continued emphasis on professional development, innovative teaching practices and meaningful learning experiences.

The opportunity to learn from Padma Shri Prof. H. C. Verma was an inspiring experience, reinforcing the role of educators in nurturing curiosity, critical thinking and a lifelong passion for science among young learners.
